Piano 2018

NYIAA will present the Sixth New York International Artists Piano Competition in April 2018. The contestants' performances will be auditioned and judged via on-line format.

Contestants must submit recorded performances either by sending a DVD recording or by e-mailing a YouTube link. The content of the recordings must abide by the competition's rules and regulations.

All application documents and DVD recordings sent by mail must be received by NYIAA on or before April 1, 2018. All YouTube links and scanned documents e-mailed to competition@nyiaa.org must be received on or before April 1, 2018.

Schedule

  • April 1,2018: Application deadline (Not postmarked)
  • May 15, 2018: Announcement of the results on the NYIAA website
  • * September and/or October, 2018: Winners' awards ceremony and concert at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall

Repertoire

Category A: 11 to 14 Years old

  1. The first movement of a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, or Beethoven.
  2. One of the following:
    • A substantial composition by Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, or any work of the 19th century.
    • A complete work of the 20th or 21st centuries.

    Note:Concertos are not accepted. Please e-mail competition@nyiaa.org for questions regarding the pieces' lengths.

Category B: 15 to 17 Years old

  1. The first movement of a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, or Beethoven.
  2. One of the following:
    • A substantial composition by Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, or any work of the 19th century.
    • A complete work of the 20th or 21st centuries.
  3. One substantial work, or a collection of the applicant's choice which is in a different style or by a composer other than those represented in the previous requirements.

  4. Note:Concertos are not accepted. Please e-mail competition@nyiaa.org for questions regarding the pieces' lengths.

Category C: 18 to 35 Years old

  1. The first movement of a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, or Beethoven.
  2. One of the following:
    • A substantial composition by Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, or any work of the 19th century.
    • A complete work of the 20th or 21st centuries.
  3. One substantial work, or a collection of the applicant's choice which is in a different style or by a composer other than those represented in the previous requirements.

  4. (Nocturnes, short dances, waltzes, or comparable pieces are not acceptable.)
